High End Meets High Street: The Art of Mixing Splurge & Steal Clothing

In the UK, shopping areas that feature the run of the mill stores and brands you are likely to find in traditional American malls are generally referred to as “high street.” There, you can find the likes of British fast-fashion brands Top Shop, Missguided, New Look, and River Island just to name a few. What you won’t find is the House of Victoria Beckham couture boutiques. However, you can still get your hands on items from her capsule collection at Target, and if you are a serious fashionista, you likely won't be disappointed by the offerings.

And because I am such an advocate of mixing high-end and budget-friendly clothes and accessories, this VBxTarget collection is perfect for showing you how to do it with ease.  I was very pleased that the posh British pop star-turned-fashion designer didn’t “dumb down” (for lack of a better phrase) her significantly more affordable offerings featured in her Target collection.

When the uber stylish VB and my favorite discount retailer Target announced in October 2016  their plans to collaborate on a capsule collection and that the plus size items would also be available in-store, I was super excited and eagerly anticipated the spring 2017 release. I was hoping she’d offer items that looked and felt like her luxury label. I can say I wasn't disappointed by what I saw and what I ultimately purchased.

The collection is very High Street meets High End allowing women from a range of socioeconomic statuses and budgets to get their hands on designer duds for less. Beckham, the artist formerly known as Posh Spice and one-fifth of 90s British pop group The Spice Girls, launched her first luxe line in 2011, after years of giving us awe-inspiring formal ensembles on the red carpet and super casual yet stunning street style looks worldwide.  Pieces from her exclusive Victoria Beckham line range anywhere from $400 to thousands of dollars for a single piece. But her Target collection, with about 200 items, offered designer garbs for under $50 each.

In fact, this “Haute Pink” (as I have named it) matching coordinates set was just $66 (top $26, pants $40.) And the quality is A+ with sturdy and well constructed pieces. I mean, who else but Target could offer such fabulosity for less?  This outfit is a great example of how best to mix pieces from your wardrobe that you've splurged on with pieces you purchased because they were a steal!

I paired  a Chanel brooch, and a GucciGhost scarf and Gucci clutch with the VBxTarget $66 coordinates and $28 pom pom sandals from Forever 21 to complete this High Street meets High End look. When you consider a similar top and pants look from the official luxe Victoria Beckham line (which does not offer plus items) costs $1165, about the cost of a luxury designer handbag, I think I did well. Looking like you’ve paid thousands of dollars for the perfect stylish look can be made easy thanks to several fast fashion brands like Eloquii and Zara who are offering luxe looks for less. You certainly don’t have to break the bank to achieve high fashion style. In fact, your more affordable clothing items tend to look just as expensive as the rest of your outfit when paired with your higher-end items. No one but you will know what you paid for what, but they will certainly think you are a big baller! LOL!

To help you achieve success in creating your own High End Meets High Street looks, here are a few How To Tips:
  1. Go For The Classics — When you’ve decided to make a high-end luxury purchase, buy a classic piece that will last and remain in style for many years to come. This is especially true for designer handbags and shoes. Most never really go out of style.
  2. Save On The Trendy — Trends come and go, so don’t invest too much time, energy and most importantly MONEY on clothing that will likely be irrelevant after 2, maybe 3 seasons. That goes for trendy designer duds too!
  3. Invoke Your Own Sense of Style — At the end of the day, where what you like and stay true to your own brand of style. Regardless of what your look costs, how you feel in it and how it fits are what’s important.
As always, thanks for stopping by and shop the look below. Here is some GREAT news too: The haute pink coordinates are now on sale! The top is under $19 and the pants are $28. Happy Shopping!
