Street Style & Grass Fields

I have come to realize that I am totally having a love affair with African print maxi skirts. They offer so many style elements that I simply can not get enough of: bold, bright colors, undeniable style, unapologetically ethnic, versatility and fun! They can also be sexy, like this one with not 1, not 2, but 4 discreet splits (two in front and two in back) that are full of flirty-ness. 

This skirt, the limited edition Carine Maxi Skirt, is from a little gem of an online British boutique called Grass Fields. I came across the company’s Instagram account late last year and became completely enamored with their offerings. I’ve since purchased a few pieces and have fallen completely head over heels with the selection of fabulous African printed jewels. 

But let’s get into this look! How absolutely FAB-U-LOUS is this skirt? I mean, it’s really a favorite piece for me right now. I love the fit, the colors, the length and of course the SPLITS! I was so quick to kick my legs out during this photo shoot, I just knew every picture would feature a different thigh angle. LOL!!! 

I paired the skirt with a sleeveless cropped denim jacket I purchased over a year ago from Forever 21 and tucked it into the waistband of the skirt. I threw on my favorite tan platform sandals to complete the look and was absolutely pleased with the outcome! 

I also love that Grass Fields offers a large size range with just about every item on their site ranging in sizes from extra small to 4X. They certainly don’t leave the plus size/curvy community out! However, if there is one minus about the brand, it’s that none of their pieces has any stretch whatsoever (as most African wax cloth DOES NOT) so because I have relatively large arms, I sometimes find it difficult to get a top or dress that fits me perfectly. While I haven’t yet had to get any pieces altered to accommodate my arm size, if I want to be completely comfortable, I will need to see my seamstress sooner rather than later.
