Stylist Shun Melson Presents #FaShunTakeover in Atlanta

On the past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the #FaShunTakeover fashion show of stylist Shun Melson. Some may recognize Shun from her regular appearances on Bravo TV reality shows Don’t Be Tardy and the Real Housewives of Atlanta, where she has styled Kim Zolciak, Kandi Burrus and Phaedra Parks to name a few of her clients. Others know shown for styling music videos of some of the hottest R&B and Hip Hop artists including Fantasia, Monica, Ludacris and Gucci Mane.

With Shun following her successful show
Shun’s been in the styling business for some time, and for the first time in her storied career she produced a fierce fashion show that featured many of the looks she sells on her ShunMelson.com online boutique. What I appreciate the most about Shun is the way she demonstrates how very specific looks fit straight size and plus size clothing. One look at her social media postings and her website, you will see she prides herself in proving that real style has no size.

Plus model Nedra Phillips is the face of Shun’s curvy style and that sister sure knows how to rock the runway. Nedra is gorgeous and gives major face. Her confidence just takes over any room she walks in, and she and Shun make the perfect the team. At the end of the show, the dynamic duo slayed the crowd in matching “batgirl” looks that only the two of them come pull off. But I have jumped ahead.

The #FashunTakeover began with a violinist playing live to Future’s wildly popular hit song Mask Off that has sparked new interest in the arts and talented musicians who actually play real instruments. Contrary to popular belief, there is still some real, non-manufactured talent in the streets!

The first look featured this pretty blue and white floral tube dress look that was perfect for Easter brunch. The look is available here. The double runway allowed for a fast-paced entertaining show that featured the same or very similar looks on a straight and plus model. Y’all know I am partial to curvy girls and I have to say, most of the looks sold better on the plus models. Those ladies were living proof of plus fashion designer Marina Rinaldi’s quote “style is not a size, it is an attitude.”

I loved the blond wigs and bunny ears each model sported down the runway as both made you focus less on the models own individual features and more of the clothes. I also like that the bunny ears, the grass runway and the adult gift baskets were all a subtle nod to the Easter weekend.

I have included my Facebook Live post of the entire show below so that my NikkiFreeStyle fans can enjoy if for themselves. All in all it was a great event and I wish Shun continued success as her empire expands and grows. Gotta give it to her, she certainly has made a name for herself in the industry through hard work and hustle. I told Shun I want to interview her for the blog as part of a new series featuring independent designers and stylists. I want to bring the #Freehive something new and exciting, and to help celebrate those among us who changing the game one garment at a time.

As always, thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check out Shun’s online boutique to purchase any of the items from the show.
