STYLE: Summer Knits

When it comes to picking out a summer outfit, knits are probably not the first thing to come to mind. It's pretty much common knowledge that knits are worn in the winter. But I am all about breaking fashion rules, and knits -- even leather or leather-like clothing  -- is acceptable in the summer when done right.

I know, I know ... the idea of wearing a knit sweater or leather pants on a hot summer's day sounds about as crazy as wearing an off the shoulder or backless sundress sans your full length mink coat or your favorite North Face bomber jacket in the dead of winter.  But this post is about knits in the summer so let's get to it!

The perfect knitted item in summer can add texture to an ensemble, and thin or very loose knits can provide the same light and breezy feel of linen.  Like this dress from SimplyBe.com. As the brand description says, it's "a definite nod to the sports-luxe trend with it's vivid stripes, ribbed armholes and pointelle detailing. And for me, it has some of my favorite fashionable features: black & white, stripes and a pop of color.

I felt like this knit dress was making a statement without making ME overheat. It's very lightweight which is awesome, but I probably could have sized down because I feel like after another wear it might loose its shape. Next time I wear this dress it will be with my white Converse sneaks for a more casual look!

Do you wear knits in the summertime? If not, why not? If so, post a pic of your best summer look in the comments or tag me on Instagram using the #NikkiFreeStyle hashtag and I'll send a NikkiFreeStyle.com t-shirt to my top 3 favorite looks!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Love,
